Siomai is a very popular steamed dumpling dish in China and the Philippines. This livelihood group was begun with an eye toward supporting Lourdes, a cancer survivor (pictured) and her husband, who currently live in a shanty on a squatter lot. The husband has skills in construction and both have previously generated income by cooking and selling food.
Through this effort, families are empowered with integrity, unity and creativity and are provided access to basic commodities to improve their quality of life and sustainable future. This siomai cart enables them to be sustainable and help others start their own small businesses. The families will also support a neighboring high school student, who will assist in the business until the student graduates from high school.
