These placemats are beautifully handwoven by weavers in the Miraj Free Methodist church near Mumbai, India, as part of the Dayanand Hand Loom Group. Purchasing these table linens helps the weavers support themselves and their families.
Dayanand Hand Loom Group is caring for the last generation of people who had Hansen’s Disease. (They have been cured for many years, but still have external & internal disabilities from this disease that used to be called leprosy. Hansen’s Disease is now almost eradicated.) Dayanand is also helping preserve this ancient art of weaving on hand looms. See a video of the weavers here.
